Well, perhaps you wouldn't believe it, but No. 4 The Friars sells cars. It's totally neon free car sales place. You need to look over the wall to see the vehicles that are for sale.
The 'turret' behind the building is the scenery drop for the Marlowe Theatre. Originally, the Odeon Cinema was converted into the Marlowe when the old site for the theatre in St. Margaret's Street was developed into the Victorian Arcade. Good, we all thought, Canterbury would continue to have a theatre.
However, someone decided to erect this monstrous box on top of the old Odeon building, so that scenery can drop in from the sky onto the stage. This box is simply dreadful, and I wonder on the sanity of the planning committee that permitted it.
Turn left or right for a view of the River Stour. Turn right round for one of Canterbury's classic sights.
