Along Watling Street
(Photo 1996)

At the end of Rose Lane we can look out of town and see the low bridge that spans the road allowing people to walk along the City Walls. The gap in the walls is known as Ridingate and leads vehicles out to a large round-about and the Old Dover Road.

On the right here is a large car park, the trees behind it are Dane John Gardens, a pleasant place for a walk.

The building site on the left is the edge of the new Whitefriars development, which has meant the demolition of much of the postwar buildings.
