We have come past recent building and now see the genuine article. When Liberty took over the shop of the left, they stripped the old shop front back to the original oak beams. The building was originally another hotel for pilgrims to Canterbury, the White Bull. Liberty have now gone, the shop is owned by Blacks, as the sign shows.

Down the street on the left is Laura Ashley.

The hanging signs are a feature of this part of town. Look up in English towns, you'll find interesting things above street level.
