The building in the centre with the arched windows was Canterbury's main Post Office. The part of the Post Office that makes deliveries has moved out of the City to the outskirts and the part that sells stamps moved into the next door premises in 1999. There is more room for queuing. Also, the central building was a casualty of the split of the GPO into the postal business and the phone business that became British Telecom. BT owned the Post Office building. It now houses Methvens bookshop.
