The Cheker of Hope was Canterbury's largest medieval inn, standing on the corner of the High Street and Mercery Lane, very convenient for the Cathedral. Some of the exterior of the building is still visible. The Canterbury Archaeological Trust have had a couple of opportunities to investigate the interior of the building. 1987/1988 Roman road at No 2 High Street Building works at the site enabled the discovery of a roman road under the site.
