St. Dunstans

St. Dunstans
(Photo 1996)

You are standing at the top of St. Dunstan's Street facing towards the West Gate of the city of Canterbury. On your right, out of view, is St. Dunstan's Church.

If you've come from London, then you've just done a right turn and, like so many Pilgrims since the 12th Century, you have just caught sight of the imposing gate into the city. It was near this spot that Henry II got down from his horse in 1174 before walking the rest of the way to the Cathedral to pay penance for the murder of Becket.
