Tips/Stradegy Guide Kyle's Nightmare by: Deset Gled (DesetGled@yahoo.com) Program by: Alexei Novikov Vyacheslavovich I own no rights to this add-on level, or to the Dark Forces computer game. But I did write his file on my very own, and would apreciate a tiny bit or credit. Tips A. With all enemies you face, you should have a weapon selected and be entirely prepared before you press the hand pad. B. As soon as you press the button, point as quickly as you can at the place the the enemies come from. Then (unless you have thermals armed) lay down on the trigger button and never let it up they're dead. C. Always remember to skiff the stiffs. In this level, some of the dead carry extremely large ammounts of ammo (although some, like the Phase One Troopers, still don't give you anything for the trouble). D. The easiest way to stay alive is to just face the enemy head to head. Never turn you back on them. You don't have any place to run to anyway. E. Ammo is not an issue in the heat of the battle. Kill one character at any cost, worry about it after he's dead. You don't have enough time to worry about the next battle. F. Try to keep the enemy in you sights at all time, and never let one get behind you. (an exception to this would be the Phase 1 troopers) Guide 1. Obviously, get all the ammo. Also pick up the two lives, but leave the recharges and sheild supercharges alone, you'll need them later. 2. Your first enemy is a stormtrooper. Not at all your standard issue one, thought. He runs extremely fast and shoots even faster. Luckily, like the regular trooper, his aim is somewhat lacking; don't count on this too much, though. At the rate this guy shoots, he is bound to hit more that a few times if you don't kill him quick. Another thing about this guy, he is very weak. One shot is usually all you need. Logically, use something with a very high rate of fire. Usually, I use the fusion cutter, but the autogun works good as well. 3. The next wave of fighters is a group of three Ree-Yees. Luckily for you, they don't throw any thermal detonators, though. However, they do still punch, and are extremely fast. They are, on the other hand, just as weak as their friend that you just took out. Using a fast gun, you can usually kill off all three before they get anywhere near you. Try using the autogun or fusion cutter, although my personal favorite to use on these guys is the stormtrooper rifle (the one you just picked up from the dead trooper, right?). I find that the ammo for it is more expendable. 4. Now the battles start getting tough. In my experience, this is the first guy that usually starts to hurt you, and, unfortunately, even kill you if you're not fast enough. This enemy is a Transdoshan (Bossk). However, he doesn't just have the usual concussion rifle. This time he's also tossing thermal detonators in every direction, and shooting lasers as well. He is also the first enemy you face that you can't kill with just one hit. You are going to need something with a power and speed. I have found that the autogun just isn't that effective on this guy if you're interesed in staying alive. Try using the fussion cutter or (my personal reccomendation) stormtrooper rifle. If your aim is good, you might try using the concussion rifle, although be warned, the slower fire rate can make it dangerous to miss. On the other hand, if your aim is not so good, you might try using thermals or the mortar gun. Try to stay as far away from him as possible, so as to stay away from his killer grenades. Always keep a bead on him. With a little luck, you can actualy kill this one before he causes any damage at all. But, if this guy does hurt you significantly, don't be afraid to pick up a recharge. 5. Your next battle is going to be your hardest one in this level. Not one, or even two, but three Phase One Troopers. They're faster, and can sometimes even kill you with just one single swipe of the sword. As always, they go straight through your shields (although shields are still quite useful). I have found that one of the keys to beating these three is some well used preparation. Remember those claymores they gave you at the beginning? Lay out a minefield between the place where the troopers come from and the palmpad. I usually use all of them, but you might want to keep a few, but don't expect this alone to do much damage when they first come out. Before you let them out, arm your thermals. And by the way, don't bother wasting a shield supercharge on these guys, their swords don't mind it at all. When you release them, start chucking thermals at them before you even see them. Then, after they get too close for comfort (that is, anywhere in the same room), start running through your own minefield. As you run, throw thermals in your wake, by just tapping the fire button (using explode-on-contact grenades). Hopefully this will do minimum damage to you, if you keep running at top speed, and maximum damage to the troopers. If your minefield runs out and you still have grenades, continue to run around like a headless chicken chucking them behind you until you run out. If after all this, they're still alive, you're starting to run low on options (and probably on lives as well). My advise at this point is to arm the mortar gun or concussion rifle and just point and shoot. If you run out of ammo and they still remain, you probably have run out of lives or luck. Keep practicing, you'll eventuall get it. I find that if you use the plan outlined here, you can actually kill all these guys without losing a single life. If you get game over, just get back up on the horse. 6. From this point on everything is basically easy. Pick up a recharge and a shield supercharge, arm your favorite weapon, and let the battle begin. Your next enemy is a Phase Two Trooper, and by using a shield supercharge you are a major stud. Just keep him in your sights and the trigger pressed down. If you're quick with dishing it out, you can kill this guy and the next one (Phase Three Trooper, your old friend General Mohc) using only one supercharge. Fighting the Phase Three is not that much different from fighting the Phase Two, except that he has a tendancy to knock you farther backwards. With both of these badies, you face only one real danger. At the rate these guys fire, they have a tendacy to throw you pretty far in the air and let you stay there until they feel like letting you fall, potentially to your death. Just keep moving and you won't get in too much trouble. Well, thats pretty much it for now. Above all else, remeber to enjoy yourself. Its only a game, after all. Oh, and by the way, don't forget to use some cheat codes after you beat it for real. Using the supermap and teleporting has some intersting results. I don't mind if you want to distribute this file, as long as you include my alias, Deset Gled, and my e-mail, DesetGled@yahoo.com. But please, don't spam me.
