An electricity board trench outside the eastern end of the south aisle of St Margaret's Church revealed a chalk and stone foundation first uncovered inside the church in the 1986 excavations (Canterbury's Archaeology 1986-7 and 1987-8). This almost certainly dates from the time of the rebuilding of the east end of the church in the eighteenth century when the street was widened.
